FRIENDS (Shelter Tour)
Our favorite program! What could
be more valuable to your students then to visit the Humane Society
of Broward County? Not only will your students learn all about the
shelter and what we do to help homeless animals but they will also
get to visit all the homeless animals available for adoption. Recommended
age: 6th-12th Grade
CLINIC TOUR
This tour is a real treat for those
interested in seeing spay/ neuter surgery live and up close! The
tour also includes a presentation about the Humane Society of Broward
County and the importance of spaying and neutering. Students will
also visit the homeless animals available for adoption. Recommended
age: 9th – 12th Grade

BREAK THE CHAIN!
This PowerPoint program helps children
recognize the difference between a well cared for animal and an
animal that is neglected. Children will learn about a pet's basic
needs including companionship. Recommended age: 6th – 12th

PET STORES AND PUPPY MILL
FACTORIES - THE CONNECTION
This video and PowerPoint lesson
explore the sad reality of where pet store puppies come from - "PUPPY
FACTORIES." Students will learn proactive ways they can help put
an end to this cruel practice. Recommended age: 6th-12th Grade
HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS FOR
YOUR PET
This PowerPoint lesson explores all
of the ways to protect and prepare your pet before a hurricane hits.
Recommended age: 6th-12th Grade.
GET ACTIVE FOR ANIMALS!
This lesson encourages students to
get involved and work together to make a difference in their community
by helping animals in need. Students learn ways they can help animals
while earning Service Learning Hours for school. Recommended age:
7th – 12th Grade

at 8:30 am

PET SAFETY
Children are the number one victims
of animal bites! Often times children do not know the proper way to
greet an animal, when to leave an animal alone and what to do if a
stray animal approaches. This lesson will teach children all the basics
to keep them safe and keep our animals happy. Recommended age: 1st
Grade
SHOW ME THE WAY TO GO HOME
This hands-on lesson teaches children
the importance of pet identification and what to do in the event a
pet gets lost. Students participate by constructing their own flier
advertising a LOST dog or cat. Recommended age: 2nd-3rd Grade
THE PET SUITCASE
This hands-on lesson teaches children
the huge responsibility of caring for a pet. Children will learn how
to be a good "pet parent." by identifying all the things that pets
need to be healthy and happy. Recommended age: 2nd Grade
CAREER DAY
Career Day planners will welcome this
presentation that introduces students to jobs and careers at the Humane
Society of Broward County. Children will act out and dress up in costumes
to demonstrate jobs at the shelter caring for animals. Recommended
age: 2nd Grade and older
ANIMALS HAVE FEELINGS TOO!
This lesson teaches children about
how animals communicate their feelings through sounds and body language.
Children will learn that animals are very similar to us even though
they don't speak our native language. Recommended age: 3rd Grade
PET OVERPOPULATION
This hands-on activity teaches students
about the tragedy of pet overpopulation. More than 1,000 dogs and
cats per week become homeless in Broward County. This lesson teaches
students the importance of spaying and neutering, adopting from the
shelter and making a lifetime commitment to their pet at home. Recommended
age: 4th-5th Grade
