Stray Pets
If you have found a stray dog or cat without any identification,
you should take the pet to a veterinarian’s office or shelter
to have the pet scanned for a microchip. Microchips require a special
scanner to read the information which most shelters and many vet offices
have. As long as the owner has kept the microchip information up-to-date,
they will be able to be reunited with their pet.
If you decide to hold on to the pet while searching for the owner you should call our shelter, Broward County Animal Care and Regulation and, if appropriate, Miami-Dade Animal Services and file a found report in case the owner has filed a lost report. You can reach their office at 954-359-1313 ext. 2474 and leave a message, or take the stray to one of their two locations. If the pet is confined, an Animal Care Officer may pick up the pet, but you will need to call Animal Dispatch at 954-359-1313 ext. 2474 Monday-Friday between 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM. After 5:30 PM, and before 7:00 AM and 24 hours a day on weekends and holidays, call Fire Central Dispatch at 954-765-5124 or 954-765-5125.
