Canine Good Citizen Class (AKC)

If you and your dog have already tackled the challenge of basic dog obedience class and are trying to find ways to have fun and keep your skills sharp, the Canine Good Citizen class might be just what you are looking for. Previously completing a basic obedience class is not required to take this class, but you may find it helpful. All ages are welcome to participate in the AKC program, however for our class we would like to start your dog at no younger than 4 months. If you are interested in working with your puppy (younger than 4 months) on the Canine Good Citizen award please call Stephanie Rodgers CPDT at the humane society (954-266-6819) for scheduling a suitable class setting for you and your pup.

This class is designed to prepare you and your dog for the Canine Good Citizen evaluation and award. Each class will review and provide” hands on” time to practice the exercises required to pass the test. Some of the exercises are; sitting politely to be petted, meeting a stranger, or interaction with another dog. We use positive reinforcement training techniques to create a fun and non confrontational learning environment.

This class is a five week class (one hour sessions) and will be scheduled in a group setting. All classes are held at the Humane Society of Broward County and are held outside. The same guidelines for group dog obedience classes apply. For more information please see our page on Obedience Classes.

Pre-registering is required. The fee for this class is $145.00 for groups and $200.00 for private training. For more information on how to schedule a class for you and your dog please call Stephanie Rodgers CPDT; 954-266-6819.
